One of the largest traps, when building fitness, is the constant pursuit of novelty. We stop doing what we MUST do, and instead chase the new thing. In fact, we use “the new thing” as a reason to stop doing the effective thing.
We let ourselves be distracted. We crave distraction because it allows us to stop doing the hard thing. We seek distraction out – “Lemme just check my messages before I start my workout” – because it lets us off the hook.
Exercise isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it burns your muscles; sometimes it burns your lungs; sometimes it burns your brain.
The benefits come from doing the uncomfortable thing. But the uncomfortable can be made more comfortable with friends; with a coach; or in a sacred place in which you focus on your health and fitness and ignore everything else for an hour every day.
That’s Catalyst.
