Joining us for the 9am WOD: Thomas Ross, recently returned from Afghanistan after his Tour.
From another survivor, Denise Casaletto:
Hey Coop !!
I am writing to thank you for YOU and for Catalyst !! My thanks must also start
with my dear friend Lynda, without Lynda asking me to join her in a workout with
you I may never have been introduced to you !!
With each passing week and my half hour sessions I became stronger and
stronger. So much so, that when my half hour package of sessions with Lynda
was finished I started one-hour sessions. Initially I came to you because I
wanted to be a better rider. I have the most beautiful Westphalian Mare and
I wanted to be worthy of her !! With the end of each hour session I felt like a
Queen!! I mustered the courage to then say “Coop, put me in for another one
hour session this week!!”
During my workout sessions I would hear other ladies speaking of this “Barbell
Betty” class !! At first I was a little intimidated by this class. Then Coop advised
Tyler was instructing !! Game over, sign me up !! Tyler has the kindest most
reassuring, motivating disposition. I had a great time and could not believe how
much weight I could lift. The other ladies in the group were wonderful. We all
helped and encouraged each other.
On November 23rd of 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and very quickly
had a mastectomy. This news hit me harder than anything I had experienced in
my life. How on earth could this be happening !! I had been in shape and had
eaten well for most of my life. I had fallen off the wagon so to speak for a few
years, but other than that I was healthy!! Coop helped me to become stronger
than I had ever been before. Crossfit is amazing and does wonderful things for
your spirit and muscles. I mean I could pull 200 pounds off the floor. I was riding
a big horse 5 or 6 times a week !! Contrary to what some people believe riding is
a serious sport and requires stamina and excellent balance.
My Surgeon and all of the nurses that have taken care of me have advised me
that my recovery has been amazing. I insisted with my nurses that I could sit
up by myself immediately after my surgery and I did !! I have been back to see
Cooper for a mild workout, have been riding my horse and I have been walking.
Psychologically this has been a terrible time for me. Physically I am strong,
and that has everything to do with Catalyst, Chis, Tyler and all of the AMAZING
friends I have met at our gym.
With each passing day I know my fears will be chased away with the knowledge
and belief that I am physically strong enough to conquer all that the coming
months will bring. My life will have limitations placed on it now, but I believe
with all of my heart and soul that I will be again doing my one hour workouts
with Coop !! Until then I will come and do what I can to keep my mind and body
strong.
Chris, I cannot thank you enough for pushing me to be better and better. I would
see other people doing things that I never thought I would be able to do !! I am
doing all of those things and more now. Thank you for listening to me complain
over and over !! Thank you for your devotion to what you do. You do it very
well. There has rarely been a day since November 23rd when I have not thanked
my lucky stars for all that you have helped me to become. Without my physical
strength I don’t believe I would be as confident as I am. Also, a sincere thank
you to all of the friends that have encouraged me at the gym. Jess, I surely miss
our morning chats.
Robin, thank you to and your darling children. Without your love and support
Chris could not do what he does with such passion.
With deepest gratitude,
Denise Casaletto
