Today's the day our Summer Apprentices finalize their study subjects for the summer. Charity's "No Grains" study has already attracted a lot of attention (and so has Nick's Type I Diabetes Study.) Josh will be studying exercise/academic adherence in teens; Nicole is working on a very interesting 'Team v. Solo' training project that sounds a lot like the early Gym Jones stuff; Odie will be researching rates of injury in CrossFit vs. other competitive sports. Here's his pitch:
Hey my name is Odane Ferguson, but many call me Odie for short. For the summer apprenticeship of 2010 I have chosen to do my project on the acute to serious injuries in CrossFit across Ontario compared to other professional sports. I will be gathering information from the many different CrossFit gyms in Ontario and charting their injury reports as of june 1st. As well as using the internet for the many other professional sports and comparing the injury rates to CrossFit. CrossFit believes in teaching the proper techniques before ever introducing the workout and even though we push you hard to get your personal record using the prescribed weight, we understand if your not physically strong enough. Will that result in fewer injuries than in other sports? We'll see. Well that was the gist of what I will be doing and I'm excited about it.
