CrossFit Ontario Challenge Event #3:
1000m Row
50 Box Jumps
50 Double-Unders
…for time.
Backstory: it's the CrossFit Ontario Challenge. After two events, the huge gym at Moss Park Armoury is tense; speculation about the mystery 3rd event hangs like a red ribbon down the middle of the room. Competing with us are 70 of the Fittest in Ontario, from CrossFit and fight gyms.
It's been a long day. After a disastrous first event, Chris and Mike had a bit of redemption in the deadlift/burpee event. Conversely, Tyler ripped into the top 5 in the first event, but tapped out very early in the second. Though a Top 10 finish was still possible, he'd have to draw deep into the marrow. Whitney stands in second place among the Rx Women, right behind a competitor who nearly qualified for the CrossFit Games. We're eating, resting; Tyler's all over the foam roller like it's their third date. And then the rowers start rolling out….
Our new buddy Alex Jeffrey has never done a double-under before. Mike and I are NOT smooth on the fast rope. Tyler's wondering if his back can hold out for 1000m. The boys are stressed; Whitney's making friends and chatting, the picture of composure.
In the end, a 6'1" competitive rower would beat her out, but she'd hold onto Second Place Overall. Unreal. Tyler would win his heat to finish 11th overall; Chris would hold position; Mike would fall a little further after struggling with the double-unders. Their times:
Whit – 8:23
Ty – 5:53
Chris – 8:56
Mike – 11:53. Today, folks, will be a different story.
