Inner Strength!!
Where do individual’s get there inner strength, we all have
a story that shapes us through out are life.
Growing up I was easily the smallest kid in the
neighborhood, which translated into getting picked on quiet a bit. When I
started high-school I thought it was going to be a new beginning until someone
attempted to stuff me in the locker. But I think the most defeating moment in
high school came when the wrestling coach asked me if I wanted to join the team.
A brief sense of excitement came over me, until he followed it with “there
won’t be anyone in your weight class”.
This is when I decided to change things, I began Martial
arts at 14, and hit the gym, tried every product possible to gain weight,
accept the illegal one’s (was smart enough not to go there). By the end of high
school I was still a scrawny kid. You thought that was going to change didn’t
you, so did I, I was wrong. I was approx. 130lbs soaking wet when I graduated.
Not really a big deal unless you perceive yourself as a little nothing. Through
the years of Martial Arts and training my perception changed little by little,
but it was that perception that gave me the Motivation and the Focus that I have today. To go in day in and day out and do what I believe I
need to do, although my reasons might change from year to year. Today in high
stress career my daily efforts are about balance, balance of serotonin, stress,
life and fun and most of all role modeling to my children. Looking back that coach was simply
giving me a way to change, wrestling is awesome for the body, confidence, my
perception is what was wrong and not joining is one of my biggest regrets.
Today what are we fostering in the up in coming scrawny
kids. Media would suggest that there are miracle supplements. I believe
Crossfitters are out to change the face of that perception to one of hard work
sweat, tears skin and blood. This
is what I like about Crossfit, everyone has a story and the Catalyst family
wants to know what it is, what motivates you to the “Masochistic pursuit”. If
your struggling to do that last rep, someone is going to be there to yell at
you (generally words of encouragement, and if they have a voice left) that you
can do it one more time.
Monique way to change your perception and to find motivation
in it and the tune sounds true.
Clint
