The Running Start

After 16 years in this business, I’m a bit better at predicting which new clients will be successful.
We routinely ask new members for their Bright Spots: what are you already doing well?. Then we ask them to try on success: how will you know that you’re getting closer to your goal?
It’s a proven process, and our results speak for themselves: over 90% of people who come to Catalyst for more than a month stay for more than a year. To put it another way, people don’t quit Catalyst. They like it.
In January, that number goes down a bit. It’s not because people make ridiculous New Year’s Resolutions and don’t have any willpower; it’s because if you’re likely to put off a decision in the belief that life will be easier on New Year’s Day, you’re not ready. Not yet.
On January 1, you might sleep in a little longer. But the dog will still have to go out. Tomorrow, you’re back to work. The kids will be back in school on Monday. Preparing to move forward in your life, to jam the gear out of ‘neutral,’ requires more than flipping the calendar page. We’ll make that change as simple as possible, but the ramp will still require resolve, not just resolution.
If you’re joining in January, I give you a 50-50 chance in the short-term. Eventually, I know you’ll be back (see above: no one quits Catalyst forever.)
However, if you’re joining NOW, on December 13…I know you’re going to make it. You’ve reached the point where you can’t wait any longer, and that’s good. By the time January hits, you’ll be three weeks into the process – the habits will be formed, the routines established, the lunches packed. You’ll have a huge head start on 2013.
It will probably be your best year ever.
